An Edgy Look for Autumn
This season’s hottest styles are all about using your imagination and mixing things up. The designers pushed back the boundaries of winter fashion this year, encouraging us to interpret at will and create our own personal signature trends from the building blocks they presented. And don’t feel that the key pieces of the season are only available with a hefty designer price tag attached. Many high street brands, including Peacocks, are offering fabulously affordable, and wearable, versions of the catwalk’s favourite styles for Autumn/Winter 2011.
The block brights trend encourages us to play around with our best-loved vibrant shades. Choose a focal point for your outfit – a brightly coloured pair of jeans or a shift dress in a bold hue. Work the rest of your outfit around this colour. Choose one contrasting shade and bring it in a colourful pair of shoes, a bag, a neck scarf or some statement earrings. The rest of the ensemble should be muted and demure using neutral shades or classic black. Keep the shapes in your outfit simple by using clean cut fabrics and square cut pieces. Fitted jumpers, skinny jeans, pencil skirts and shift dresses are all perfect for the look.

The English heritage revival is all about mixing up your textures. Herringbone tweeds with chunky knits, mohair wool with corduroy trousers. But if you’re going to go for mixed up texture, choose a typically English palate of burgundy, forest green, navy blue, shades of brown and beige.
One of our favourite seasonal styles comes in the form of the Navajo inspired knit. Find a fabulous ikat print knit dress and the focal point of many an outfit is already established. Dress it down with thick black tights, black bovver boots and a black leather bowling bag for a playing-it-casual look. Alternatively go for school-girl inspired chic with a pair of knee high socks and ankle-bar Mary Jane heels in a contrasting colour. For a dressier look, clinch the waist of the dress in with wide tan leather belt. Wear with smart, high heeled brogues and a boxy satchel bag to give a loose fitting jumper a more structured kind of style.
